Karen Addington US History 112 Dr. Patricia Hoskins May 20, 2016 Salem Witch Trials Like Slavery the Salem Witch Trials are a part of history that all would like to erase. In Salem Massachusetts the colonist were mostly made up of Puritans. Puritans were lead on the firm foundation that the Bible was, is and still the only word. This lead to the belief that this was the only way to convict, judge and execute those of a satanic faith, such as witch craft. The Salem Witch Trials were mostly conducted between the months of February 1692 through the middle of May 1693. By the end of this period over 200 men, women and children were accused of being witches. These accusations were brought on by a group of girls in age of 12 to 20 years old. To fully understand what took place in Salem we need to know what the Bible, Satan and Puritans are all about. At this time as well, there were other laws being created that would allow Protestants to openly worship. This lead to a large amount of tension among the Puritans that believed this type of religion was t he work of the devil. The life of a Puritan was the Bible and the word of it. The Bible clearly states that witch craft, fortune tellers and sorcery are evil. In the Bible Satan is evil, he tricks and deceives humans in an attempt to cause them to do evil. To participate in witch craft was considered to be making a pact with Satan. Puritans believed and lived by the word of the God.
